Packaging for People, Planet and Profit Sustainability Checklist
March 20, 2017
The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) and the Industry Council for Research on Packaging and the Environment (INCPEN) have developed a new sustainability checklist designed to help brands optimize their packaging systems. Packaging for People, Planet and Profit Sustainability Checklist provides companies with guidance to improve resource efficiency at all stages of the packaging value chain — including transport and end-of-life — while ensuring that the essential functionality of the packaging is not compromised.
The checklist will support businesses in considering packaging as part of the total product system for delivering products from point of production to point of consumption, which will in turn help achieve a favorable balance between the often-competing demands of designing packaging for optimum functionality, reuse and recovery considerations and reduced transport impacts. Packaging for People, Planet and Profit also includes references to relevant regulation and guidance, and encourages companies to go above and beyond legal requirements, including the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive.
