Human Safety Startups Get Cash Injection

After a successful first year, Hub Ventures and Lakeland Ventures Development are renewing their partnership to invest in companies that save lives and improve human safety, health and wellbeing.

The first year of their partnership saw investments in three human safety related firms:

  1. StreetOwl –  saves the lives of teen drivers by incentivizing them to drive more safely
  2. DIIME – improves infant and maternal health outcomes in the developing world
  3. CheckInOn.Me – a proactive, automated personal safety system.

Hub Ventures announced yesterday at SOCAP12 that it will reserve slots in its 2013 cohort for three more human safety-focused startups. The accelerator program gives companies access to mentors, business development resources, and encourages companies to rent space at HUB SoMa.

In 2012, a total of 7 companies, including the 3 firms listed above, took part in the accelerator program. Each startup team receives up to $20,000 from LVD and will compete for up to $75,000 of follow-on funding at the end of the program.

Hub Ventures is now taking applications for its 2013 cohort.
