New Fujitsu Computer Monitor Uses No Energy in Idle Mode

May 20, 2008 - Fujitsu Siemens Computers says it has developed the world's first monitor that requires no electricity at all while on standby. The so-called "zero-watt monitor" features a special switch that shuts the monitor down when the computer signal is absent and turns it back on again when the signal reappears.

Fujitsu estimates that the switch technology can save "several euros per year" in power costs.

The new monitor will hit stores this summer, retailing for the same price as a conventional monitor, Fujitsu says.
