On Gratitude ...

As I sit down to collect my thoughts in this week leading up to Thanksgiving and our trip across the pond to our first offshore gathering of the Sustainable Brands community, a tweet from a new follower, @gratitudewriter, pops up on my screen which reads: “Want to make a change in someone’s life? Buy them a chance at gratitude.” The link embedded in the tweet takes me to Amazon.com, to the page for the book The Letters of Gratitude, where upon reading further, I learn that the book is “not only an extraordinary writing tool that will transform you as an individual, it will transform your way of life.” It turns out the book offers up a process for learning to work through difficult challenges by discovering the power of gratitude.

Gratitude has become part of our regular experience over the past several years since starting Sustainable Life Media and launching the Sustainable Brands community. For our intrepid team, the challenges have been many: tough economic headwinds, a lack of resources and no pre-existing customer base waiting to support our vision by clambering to buy our services, to name a few. But along the way, we have repeatedly found that by working from a place of gratitude versus fear, the steps ahead become clear, and inevitably when we look up, we find ourselves so much farther down the road than we imagined. What started many years ago by inviting a few bright lights, each separately pursuing a similar vision, to come together to learn from each other has become a truly beautiful community of changemakers that we find ourselves in happily in the middle of.  That community (you!) has become global in reach and impact, and it truly is changing the shape of our future.

Over 400 of you will be getting together with us in London next week, and hundreds more will join via Livestream to share what we’ve learned from you, with others. And we are grateful. Grateful for the vision, commitment and leadership being demonstrated in so many places by so many of you who hope for an abundant future where business can succeed by leading the way. Grateful for the trust you place in us to continue to host you in conversation. And grateful for all you teach us each day about what’s possible for those who put their hearts AND minds, in partnership with a community of others, in to paving the way to a better world for our children.

For those of you in the US, we send you our best as your families enjoy giving thanks together later this week. And to our friends around the world, you can be sure YOU are among the many things we are grateful for — as you spur us on in the challenging times, and give us the courage to say yes to a brighter future alongside you. If you plan to be in London with us, we look forward to seeing you there. And if you aren’t able, please do join us online to be part of the conversation virtually. Registration is free and we guarantee the stories you’ll hear will inspire gratitude in you as well.

In the meantime, if you haven’t already discovered the surprising power of gratitude, use this season to give it a whirl. I suspect you’ll discover as we have that it can be a catalyst for not only personal, but whole systems transformation to boot.

Till soon, in gratitude!

KoAnn
