About the SB Innovation Open (SBIO)

SBIO is a startup competition for businesses who can have a big impact in the world of sustainability. The aim is to highlight the business models that bake social and/or environmental issues into their core while being a viable business that can scale their impact.

11 semi-finalists will be invited to attend the Sustainable Brands 2018 Vancouver Conference in June 2018 where they will meet and pitch to a panel of judges before the final 4 are selected to pitch in front of the full conference audience. 

This year is the 10th SBIO and we want it to be the best yet. We need to find the elite among the next generation of sustainable brand startups.

 

About You

Someone passionate about startups working for good. Comfortable networking - reaching out to potential participants, sponsors, and media partners. A well organized self-starter, happy to take direction and show initiative.

 

About the Position

From now to June 2018 we need someone to commit to 10-20 hours per week to co-coordinate:

  • Securing sponsors and prizes
  • Marketing the competition to potential entrants
  • Writing up interviews with past and present SBIO finalists to be published on SustainableBrands.com
  • Securing the judges
  • Coordinating the semi-finalists to be prepared and onsite for the conference
  • Coordinating the event onsite

This position includes travel & board to Vancouver for the conference from June 4-8, so please keep in mind.  Undergraduates and Grad Students are encouraged to apply for academic credit.  We are always looking for qualified individuals to join our team, so the potential for future employment is there for the right candidate.

Summary of the role:

The Sustainable Brands Membership team seeks an intern to help ensure that our Corporate Members consistently receive an outstanding experience. The Member Experience Intern will be involved in administrative and engagement projects for SB’s global network of Corporate Member organizations. This role will require constant interaction with our Corporate Member Network and is an outstanding opportunity to learn about and keep informed of all the latest corporate sustainability efforts and trends. 

The majority of the work is done online and digitally; therefore, you must be very tech savvy. You will excel in this role if you pride yourself on your extreme attention to detail and clear communication. The SB team works together very closely, supporting each other wherever support is needed.  
You must have access to a personal laptop, the ability to work in the Downtown San Francisco office at least once a week, and be able to devote 20 hrs/week to the position.

This internship receives a nominal monthly stipend and includes travel and board to the SB’18 Vancouver conference in June of 2018. Please keep in mind that we are always looking for qualified individuals to join our team – the potential for future employment is there for the right candidate.

  • Member Engagement Support
    • Supporting member on-boarding 
    • Supporting with member interviews and transcriptions

    • Adding news throughout the week
    • Adding original content from member PR contacts

About You/Experience Required:

Being our Sales Associate:

The full-time Sales Associate will support the Sales team across all products and services. With direction from the departmental head, this person will create sales tools and processes for our sales team and oversee the delivery of all sales-related training. Being the Head of Sales:

This position is responsible for the leadership and management  of all day-to-day, non-attendee revenue generating  sales for the company, ensuring consistent delivery against monthly and yearly revenue performance metrics. 
Key to success will be the ability to deliver key account sales against a personal revenue target,  a current knowledge of best practices in compensations plans, sales optimization tools and processes, and sponsorship, digital and peer group membership business models that apply to our current lines of business.   We seek someone with the demonstrated ability to bring together a dynamic group of business development professionals into a high-functioning, high-performing, sales team by increasing their learning, collaboration, motivation and productivity.

Summary of the role:

The Director, Audience Marketing & Sales, is responsible for strategy and execution for lead generation, community and audience development, and revenue focused marketing for live events. They should have a solid, demonstrated track record driving attendee revenue and audience growth in the conference and event industry. They will be responsible for: 1) delivering attendee revenue goals for Sustainable Brands owned & operated events, 2) oversight and development of marketing objectives and strategies for sponsorship & attendee revenue, and 3) executing on the company-wide community and audience pipeline development. They will work with Global Brand Services team to develop monthly, quarterly, yearly and product specific marketing budgets. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver against Live Event attendee revenue goals that are set in collaboration with the senior management team
  • Create and lead online and offline strategies for data-driven marketing efforts to support live event attendee and sponsorship revenue goals
  • Champion our customer segmentation, targeting & personalization strategies; ensure unique, relevant experiences for customers, analyze and optimize continuously while driving customer leads through the purchase funnel.
  • Translate top of funnel leads (from newsletters and content website traffic) into lead flow and convert to attendee sales
  • Upgrade our marketing capabilities across the board,
    • Online: leveraging fresh ideas and industry best practices to create new processes, tools, and capabilities including geo-targeting, industry-targeting, leveraging customer insights, rapid testing.
    • Offline: Creative ideas that reach our customers where they are; Print, phone, direct, face to face, events, etc.
  • Create strategy for non SB.com/newsletter demand generation and sales outreach for product microsites
  • Create and implement successful lead nurture campaigns
  • Design and implement customer loyalty and cross-sell initiatives, remarketing, SEO/SEM strategies to improve acquisition of customers for live events
  • Manage and oversee marketing operations technologies including, but not limited to Marketo, Salesforce, LinkedIn, Rain King and Google Analytics
  • In collaboration with Live Event Line of Business owner, set product planning and pricing strategies

About You/Experience Required:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of work experience in marketing, product or general management with specific online marketing experience.
  • 3 years of experience managing a marketing team
  • Demonstrated track record of driving attendee revenue and audience growth in the conference and event industry; ideally in the sustainability or brand marketing conference and event industry.
  • Strong experience driving revenue through customer acquisition strategies.

Playing a critical role in the Global Brand Services team, the Design Manager is the key to how our brand comes alive online and in print. We’re looking for a reliable person who not only has a strong set of design skills, but a strong set of technical skills to clearly communicate design ideas using various design tools. S/he has good project management skill, sets realistic project timelines and goals, and then achieves them.   • Create visual presentations or imagery with the aim of communicating a message to a target audience.
  • Partner with senior leadership team to set the creative tone/look and feel for the SB brand
  • Lead the Global Brand Service team in the development and consistency of brand/visual style guidelines, ensuring  the delivered products adhere to the brand guidelines, policies and standards.
  • Actively engage in the quality of our design and design process, suggesting ways to improve
  • Manage temporary design consultants as needed

Individual Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Design web page graphics, logos, illustrations, advertisements, brochures and other forms of visual communications
  • Leverage creative and marketing knowledge to develop new creative campaigns for specific target audiences
  • Coordinate with all teams to deliver strategic brand and marketing materials to meet their goals
  • Work with all teams’ design and production needs:
    • Collaborate with the Event Operations team to develop project plans/scopes/resource allocation for materials needed to brand each event, oversee and source vendors/freelancers.
      • Design on site print and digital materials, ensuring milestones are being met for all design-related projects.
      • Art directing yearly conference theme and working with creative teams/agencies to execute onsite.
    • Lines of Business including Corporate Membership and Business Development - design templates for presentations and sales materials
    • Global Brand Services
      • Creating brand/creative files to be shared with international teams
      • Collaborate with GBS to design brand/style guidelines and ensure consistent execution globally
      • Creating and organizing Flickr albums for events
  • Manage interns and freelance designers/production assistants
  • Manage file structures on Dropbox and design files on cloud storage
  • Design engaging advertising for print and web
  • Design content document downloads e.g. digital brochures, sales collateral

About You/Experience Required:

  • 4-6 years of professional design experience at a design firm, agency or established company
  • Expertise in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign; Adobe Creative Suite; PowerPoint
  • Wonderful attention to detail, both in your designs and in your management of projects
  • Ability to see the big picture, and then dive into the minutia, and consistently evaluate how the two play into each other
  • Working knowledge of HTML desired
  • Thrive in a fast-paced work environment  
  • Willing to travel a few times a year, as necessary, to visit conference sites and assess how our brand will come to life in each location
  • You display original thinking and creativity; Meet challenges with resourcefulness; Generate suggestions for improving work; Develop innovative approaches and ideas; Present ideas and information in a manner that gets others' attention.

Communications Design Assistant (Volunteer/Intern)

 

About the Position

Our Marketing team seeks a qualified Design Intern to assist the Design Manager, along with other members of the Marketing team. The position is part-time, about 10-15 hours per week. The work will likely be divided between work in our San Francisco office and work from home.  

 

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Design a wide range of projects for print and digital: web banners, print ads, event materials, presentations, brochures, and other branding identity materials — from supporting concept to production

  • Solicit and incorporate feedback on your work from the Design Manager, marketing team members and other cross-functional team members.

 

Skills and Experience

 

  • A portfolio showcasing strong work with layout, typography, (some illustration and photography are a bonus) and ability to share creative process.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in designing for print and web
  • Comfortable with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver is a plus!) 
  • Bonus: experience with iMovie or any other video editing app
  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a design related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrable ability to clearly articulate your design decisions
  • You are currently enrolled in a BA/BS or MA/MS program (graduating after May 2018)

The Sustainable Brands International Team seeks an intern to join our team to assist with the Front-End Digital Management. Each year, partner organizations in other countries take our core conference model and implement it in their respective countries. In 2016, we had partner-led conferences in Istanbul, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Cape Town, and many others.

We are looking for someone with a solid background in coding to assist our international partners. In this role, you will be responsible for taking content from our international partners and uploading it to the main Sustainable Brands website (sustainablebrands.com) while also helping partners edit and maintain the microsites for their respective countries.

Responsibilities:

  • Uploading digital content from international partners (photos, event information) to the Sustainable Brands website
  • Each of our international partners has their own individual microsite for their upcoming conferences (ex: http://events.sustainablebrands.com/sb17istanbul/). You will be in charge of answering questions about these microsites -- how to set them up, how to edit them, what editing powers are available, etc.

About You/Experience Required:

  • Experience with coding languages like HTML and CSS (required)
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design, as you will be dealing with many design assets.
  • Proficient with all common types of information technology, especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Docs and all manners of Internet research

A successful coordinator will assist in the management of our relationships with international partners. Each year, partner organizations in other countries take our core conference model and implement it in their respective countries. We have had partner-led conferences in Istanbul, Madrid, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, São Paulo, and others.

We are looking for someone to help us work more effectively with our international partners. In this role, you will help us streamline our communication with our partners, bring them the tools and resources they need to be successful and bring our brand to life in every other country in which we do business.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting us in excellent, timely communications with a variety of international partners
  • Facilitating monthly phone or video calls between international partners and key members of the Sustainable Brands team; capturing key takeways and providing follow up
  • Assisting the Global Brand Services & International Teams with the set-up and creation of monthly newsletters to all international partners
  • Help to coordinate a day-long or weekend-long event international partners either before or after our upcoming conferences.
