About the SB Innovation Open (SBIO)

SBIO [www.sbio.co] is a startup competition for businesses who can have a big impact in the world of sustainability. The aim is to highlight the business models that bake social and/or environmental issues into their core while being a viable business that can scale their impact.

11 semi-finalists will be invited to attend the Sustainable Brands 2017 Detroit Conference in May 2017 where they will meet and pitch to a panel of judges before the final 4 are selected to pitch in front of the full conference audience. 

This year is the 9th SBIO and we want it to be the best yet. We need to find the elite among the next generation of sustainable brand startups.

Someone passionate about startups working for good. Comfortable networking - reaching out to potential participants, sponsors, and media partners. A well organized self-starter, happy to take direction and show initiative.

 

About the Position

From now to May 2017 we need someone to commit to 10-20 hours per week to co-coordinate:

  • Securing sponsors and prizes
  • Marketing the competition to potential entrants
  • Writing up interviews with past and present SBIO finalists to be published on SustainableBrands.com
  • Securing the judges
  • Coordinating the semi-finalists to be prepared and onsite for the conference
  • Coordinating the event onsite

This position includes travel & board to Detroit, MI for the conference from May 22-25, so please keep in mind.  Undergraduates and Grad Students are encouraged to apply for academic credit.  We are always looking for qualified individuals to join our team, so the potential for future employment is there for the right candidate.

Front End Digital Coordinator (Intern/Volunteer)

About the Position

The Sustainable Brands International Team seeks an intern to join our team to assist with the Front End Digital Management. Each year, partner organizations in other countries take our core conference model and implement it in their respective countries. In 2016, we had partner-led conferences in Istanbul, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Cape Town, and many others.


We are looking for someone with a solid background in coding to assist our international partners. In this role, you will be responsible for taking content from our international partners and uploading it to the main Sustainable Brands website (sustainablebrands.com) while also helping partners edit and maintain the microsites for their respective countries.



Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Uploading digital content from international partners (photos, event information) to the Sustainable Brands website

  • Each of our international partners has their own individual microsite for their upcoming conferences (ex: http://events.sustainablebrands.com/sb17istanbul/). You will be in charge of answering questions about these microsites -- how to set them up, how to edit them, what editing powers are available, etc.


Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with coding languages like HTML and CSS (required)

  • Basic knowledge of graphic design, as you will be dealing with many design assets.

  • Proficient with all common types of information technology, especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Docs and all manners of Internet research

  • Video editing experience a major plus

International Partnerships Coordinator (Intern)

About the Position

The Sustainable Brands International Team seeks an intern to join our team and assist in the management of our relationships with international partners. Each year, partner organizations in other countries take our core conference model and implement it in their respective countries. In 2016, we had partner-led conferences in Istanbul, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Cape Town, and many others.


We are looking for someone to help us work more effectively with our international partners. In this role, you will help us streamline our communication with our partners (by facilitating monthly calls with our team and our partners, coordinating meetings with partners and members of the SB team, and helping us plan an event for international partners specifically at our upcoming conference in Detroit).



Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Communicating with international partners through email, video tools etc.

  • Facilitating monthly phone calls between international partners and key members of the Sustainable Brands team

  • Assisting with the set-up and creation of monthly newsletters to all international partners

  • Help to coordinate a day-long or weekend-long event international partners either before or after our upcoming conference in Detroit (May 22-25, 2017)

Community Engagement Coordinator (Marketing) [Full time staff]

Summary:

Insight Development Research Associate (Volunteer/Intern)

About the Position in 2016:

• Assist with research, design and coordination of Sustainable Brands conference content, supporting program development for flagship annual conferences in the United States and Western Europe, as well as the ground-breaking New Metrics of Sustainable Business series of events;

• Develop research reports and/or case studies to build up and/or update an internal knowledge base on a number of cutting-edge corporate sustainability topics;

• Assist with, and potentially lead, other special projects, which may include co-authoring case studies and white papers;

• Assist with other duties on behalf of the Director of Program Development or the Managing Editor, as needed;

• NOTE: This is an unpaid part-time position and we prefer candidates who can commit at least 20 hours a week. There is some potential to move into a paid leadership position after 3 months, depending on individual performance and the overall growth of the business.

You will be responsible for supporting the team in various tasks such as:


Registration:

  • Assist Marketing team in outreach to help convert incomplete registrations to paid attendees

  • Plan, account for and manage preparation of event materials needed at the registration desk onsite

  • Assist in the preparation of onsite conference materials including

  • Help to plan, design and prepare on-site tool and resource kits for various team members and stakeholders

  • Support attendees with registration help as necessary (helping to update attendee information/provide them log-in details etc)

Digital Support:

  • Manage and update the SB’16 Copenhagen event mobile app - owning the process from start to finish (data entry, timeline, coordinating with Marketing team)

  • Own the SB Digital Library event updates and maintenance

  • Update event webpages as directed to ensure event pages communicate latest and most up-to-date information

Attendee Special Events:

  • Assist the Event Operations Team in ideating, planning and strategizing around attendee engagement opportunities and special events at 2016/2017 conferences

  • Assist Sr. Events Manager in recruitment and management of Sustainability Team for events

  • Recruit, help to hire, and train your own replacement at the conclusion of the contract

Schedule

Member Engagement and Fulfillment [Intern]

About the Position

The Sustainable Brands Membership team seeks an intern to assist with Corporate Member Engagement and Fulfillment. The Membership Intern will be involved in administrative and sustainability content projects for SB’s global network of Corporate Member organizations. This role will require constant interaction with our Corporate Member Network and is an outstanding opportunity to learn about and keep informed of all the latest corporate sustainability efforts and trends.

The Member Engagement and Fulfillment team ensures that our members are equipped to utilize their membership in order to help them on their path to a sustainable future. This position will support the Member Engagement and Fulfillment team on projects ranging from administration, content creation and research.

The majority of the work is done online and digitally; therefore, the intern must be tech savvy and have strong computer skills and familiarity with Google Drive, Dropbox, and HTML. Must have access to a personal laptop and the ability to work in the Downtown San Francisco office at least once a week, 20-40 hrs/week.

Manager, Front-End Web Development [Full time staff]

Summary

The Manager of Front-End Web Development will support the Marketing team across all our digital communications products and services. With direction from the departmental head, this role will be responsible for adapting our brand style to the digital realm and oversee the delivery of responsive web and email experiences for our audience and stakeholders. They will also strive to improve and optimize processes for development projects and identify tools and resources to maintain product integrity and relevance. We are looking for a values-aligned, quality-focused team member to fill this role who has a solid understanding of what constitutes good design and coding best practices, and who thrives in a dynamic and collaborative team environment.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Front End Development:
    • Manage multiple digital design and development projects in a deadline-driven team environment
    • Develop, maintain and support front end website, event microsites and landing pages
    • Create daily and weekly marketing emails and newsletters
    • Integrate the website with several other platforms including Google Analytics, Adwords, Salesforce, Marketo etc.
    • Test and troubleshoot across multiple browsers, platforms, and devices, including smart phones and tablets
  • Digital Content Management:
    • Work collaboratively with Event Ops and Marketing to create 3-4 attendee emails per event
    • Copy edit and QA/correct pages on event microsites, e.g. Special Events Pages
    • Design and manage marketing pages on event microsites such as Sponsor page, Activation Hub page, Sustainability page, and other attendee engagement pages (Working collaboratively with Ops, Marketing, and Business Development on content and timing)
    • Manage upload of appropriate digital sponsor logos and advertisements (Drupal, Google Analytics, DFP)
    • Assist in creating and managing assets for speakers, like web pages, social tools, and webforms.
    • Assist in creating and managing speaker profiles on event microsites (ongoing, all managed events)
    • Work with Operations to design appropriate event app marketing and tools for attendees and supporting in app builds

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Required)

  • Create daily/weekly event-related marketing emails in HTML
  • Create and maintain landing pages and emails on Marketo for webinars, downloads, speaker nominations, sponsorship inquiry
  • Create and maintain microsites and pages on Wordpress using responsive layout and design framework
  • Maintain and support front-end web site and pages on Drupal
  • Support other departments on daily html needs (create new pages, fix html errors, create new emails, etc.)

Online Marketing Coordinator/Business Intelligence (Intern)

Summary:  Part-time internship open to a passionate, dedicated individual looking to gain experience at the intersection where business meets sustainability. Responsible for supporting the Online Marketing Manager with online marketing tasks and analytics.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for the weekly analytics reports.

  • Manage and clean the marketo leads.

  • Build a lead scoring system.

  • Support the online marketing advertising with analytics and testing.

Live Event Publicity Coordinator (Intern)

Position Summary:  Provide public relations and media assistance to the communications team. Contribute to execution and analysis of live event communications campaigns that ultimately lead to increased awareness and visibility for Sustainable Brands events and the community. Part-time (approx. 15-20 hrs/week) student internship. Able to work in San Francisco office 2-3 days per week.

This internship receives a nominal monthly stipend and includes travel & board to San Diego for the conference in June of 2016, so please keep this in mind; we are always looking for qualified individuals to join our team, so the potential for future employment is there for the right candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the research, writing and distribution of press releases; insert tracking links within the release, upload the release through various distribution services, maintain a log of all final press releases
  • Search for and identify all SB related press featured in media outlets and maintain log
  • Track reporters requesting press passes to events and help coordinate final pass allocations
  • Assist in compiling comprehensive information about Sustainable Brands and parent company, Sustainable Life Media, for targeted media
  • Assist in creating brochures and sell sheets for media
  • Assist in maintaining a database of journalists, editors, publishers and freelance writers; assist in cultivating relationships with key contacts.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Completed or working towards a Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing or public relations from an accredited institution
  • Familiar with performance metrics and measurement of individual press releases and other communications vehicles (traffic sources, views, user engagement, etc)
  • Familiar with Google Analytics and news monitoring services
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point); database software skills a plus
