The Walt Disney Company-HSF Scholarship Fund, established in 2014 with a $1 million grant from Disney, is part of the Company’s longstanding efforts to support students from diverse backgrounds as they pursue their educational goals and dreams. In addition to support for students, Disney’s collaboration with HSF includes programs such as the Media and Entertainment Summit, to be held in November 2017, which brings together HSF scholars interested in the media and entertainment business and industry professionals.

The city created the new OneOrlando Fund, which will support not only the victims of the mass shooting on June 12 and their families, but also the LGBT community, the Hispanic community and other affected communities, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced on June 14. The fund also will support “underlying causes of this tragic event and other needs we cannot anticipate until we face them,” the release said.

7 years ago - Friends of the Earth released the 2016 edition of its Cruise Ship Report Card today, documenting the environmental footprint of the cruise industry and grading 17 cruise lines and their 171 ships. The report card, last released in 2014, shows an ongoing lack of initiative by cruise companies to install technologies that reduce their air and water pollution impact on travel destinations and local peoples. Disney Cruise Line was the sole cruise line this year to earn an “A” for transparency by responding to information requests. Every other line, like the year before, refused to confirm its current environmental technologies, resulting in failing grades for transparency.
