Uwe Dreher, BMW i’s Head of Marketing, presents the German car company’s new electric vehicle, built from the ground up with more sustainable materials. Dreher says that most current EVs are modified gas-powered cars, which poses design problems and often leads to inefficiency, and that 95 percent of the materials used for production of a BMW i vehicle are completely recoverable, solving many of the challenges of end-of-life cycle for vehicles. Later, Grist president & founder Chip Giller sits down with Dreher and asks why BMW i decided to undertake such an ambitious project now, to which Dreher responds, “MP3 technology was around for 40 years before a California company decided to make it happen. We are doing this now with EV. We need to revolutionize the mobility sector.”
