Sustainability Reporting Trends in North America

The Center for Sustainability Excellence (CSE)’s second annual Sustainability Reporting Trends in North America is designed to provide a useful and convenient tool for a range of stakeholders in evaluating sustainability reporting trends in the United States and Canada. The research examines the sustainability reporting trends in North America, and for the first time tries to identify the possible links between having a sustainability strategy, goals and reports to the financial performance of companies and organizations. This year’s research also includes a comparative analysis of companies that publish sustainability reports with the highest scores in CSRHub, a global sustainability ratings agency: The companies with the highest ratings on CSRHub were found to demonstrate higher financial performance than those with lower rankings during the 2014-2016 period, adding to the growing body of evidence of the importance of a comprehensive sustainability reporting strategy that includes goals and externally assuring performance information data.
